St John the Evangelist (Cotehill)
St John the Evangelist church is situated in Cotehill village and was consecrated in 1869. This is a beautiful church with an open churchyard and a Memorial Garden. Cotehill is a mainly rural village, situated 6 miles south-east of Carlisle in the Eden valley. It is a mix of traditional houses, together with a small modern development.
The church has a sound and loop system. The seating capacity is approximately 120. The majority of local worshippers live within the villages of Cotehill and Cumwhinton or in the immediate locality.
The village hall is well used and supported by the local people, with all events, both secular and church, being well attended. Events include a Strawberry Tea during the summer and the monthly ‘soup and a roll’ lunch, which are open to all.
The population of Cotehill is approximately 500. Croftfield Care Home is a residential home on the outskirts of the village with over 20 elderly residents, to whom we provide a bi-monthly Christian ministry.
